With his formative years spent in Ireland, singer songwriter producer Philip Morgan Lewis grew up in a musical environment, surrounded by blues and New Orleans jazz musicians. His stage debut, aged 10, was at the US Newport Jazz Festival jamming on the Carl Perkins’ classic “Blue Suede Shoes”. His main musical influences, growing up, were his dad’s vinyl collection & reel to reel tapes from the likes of Josh White, Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Janis Joplin and Robert Johnson. After a few years playing and recording with various bands whilst studying drama, Lewis signed his first publishing deal and started releasing records.
Philip Morgan Lewis began his musician's career with the release of his first EP Philip Morgan Lewis published by Notabene Music a sub division of US music publishing company Carlin Music founded by Freddy Bienstock (Elvis Presley publishing house) The EP was produced by Will Mowat producer/songwriter of British dance band Soul II Soul . Whilst under contract he took part in the writing of French/ Dutch singer Ophelie Winter certified gold number one single Dieu m'a donné la foi and is credited as adaptor of its English original version under the title "Jacks and Aces" released 1996 on East West Records.
Releasing under the House music label Bamboola Prod he created with DJ Murvin Jay and DJ Mr Suave, Philip wrote, performed and co-produced the song Bahia released as a 12". The record was licensed to Belgium label Soul MGMT, UK house music label Slip 'n' Slide Records, German label Sure Player with a remix from Spanish DJ/producer Dr Kucho! . The song received airplay in the US from DJ Roger Sanchez and in the UK from Annie Mac on BBC Radio One and featured on the compilation CD Klubb Latino 02 (Slip 'n' Slide) and went on featuring on many compilations CDs in the UK, Germany, USA, France and Australia. The second output on Bamboola Prod written and performed by Morgan Lewis was the song "Goodtime" released as a 12" that entered DJ Sven Vath's Top 10.
Philip Morgan Lewis performed live at the Ghent City Parade alongside DJ Darren Emerson of British electronic group Underworld (band) the Liege City Parade and the Rotterdam City Parade. Philip Morgan Lewis released the 12" Life on Belgium label Soul MGMT the song featured as the anthem of the 2006 Paris Technoparade where he performed the closing song on the place de la Bastille and at the official Techno parade party a the Bataclan sharing the bill with DJ Dimitri from Paris and Detroit's Godfather of Techno DJ Juan Atkins leading to a studio collaboration with Philip Morgan Lewis singing backing vocals. His following release Love 12" released on Soul Mgmt featured remixes from Rodriguez Jr (The Youngsters, Mobilee) and Dr Kucho! (Disc Doctor)
Marking a departure from his electronic music production Philip Morgan Lewis started performing live with a backing band in London headlining venues such as the 100 Club, Dublin Castle... With the 2013 release of the EP Karma Comedown received the support of UK national radio TeamRock radio with DJ Nicky Horne describing him as a major new talent. Planet Rock (radio station) with DJ Wyatt Wendels featured the Glam rock beat driven titled track Karma Comedown on the new rock show for 7 weeks naming it as one of the top 15 tracks of 2013 and US Blues Rock Review featured an interview and included the title track in their blues compilation. Philip Morgan Lewis followed up with a string of singles through 2014 including "Six Foot Tambourine", "The whistleblower" and GYB that all received support from Gary Crowley on BBC Radio London, Wyatt Wendels on Planet Rock and a nod from Alice Cooper on his Nights with Alice Cooper and aired in many countries through the Syndicated radio US show Confessing the blues and got Morgan Lewis nominated at the British Blues Awards 4 , and his first feature in British publication Blues Matters! issue 80.
2017- 2018 marked the release of his album "Grief Harbour" a 13 track album featuring singles aired on the BBC and Planet Rock and new songs on London based indie label Moonalizer records receiving airplay from Gary Crowley at BBC Radio London]. The single Sinner garnered airplay across the US through WUCF 89.9fm's Somekestack Lightnin syndicated show. The album received a positive review on Blues Matters! 2018 issue 101 and great reviews from music blogs in the UK.
Aside from his own projects Philip has produced tracks for bands such as Elephant with Gordon Raphael (The strokes) , Ragmans Daughter (RYP Records) and is now working on the production of TX2 Records new signing Sunnbrella.
Early 2019 Philip set up the record label TX2 Records with long time friend and music Journalist / promoter Karl Johnson of Hard of Hearing music with the aim of releasing new and exciting bands. The label is focused on physical releases and its first signing was London based artist Sunnbrella. Philip is now producing their first EP.
